18th-century Chinese blue-and-white ceramic plate decorated with floral patterns, made during the reign of the Kangxi Emperor of the Qing dynasty (r. 1661–1722) at Jingdezhen kilns for export to Europe, c. 1710.
Kangxi was the third emperor of the Qing dynasty and the second to reign over all of China. He was one of the most important rulers in the country’s history: his reign spanned 61 years, from 1662 to 1722.
Production of blue and white pottery has continued in Jingdezhen to this day, although it probably reached the height of its technical excellence during the reign of the Kangxi Emperor.
