Walnut Spanish friar Armchair with the original leather and metallic circular nail.
The friar chair, so called because it is used in convents, is of Italian origin. It became part of the Spanish furniture of the 16th century, becoming one of its most characteristic pieces of furniture. It is made up of a frame that in its Spanish version has almost no sculpted decoration except on the crossbar. However, in some specimens, the seat and back were decorated with rich embroidered fabrics or polychrome guadamecíes, in addition to the nail plate, which was made of bronze or silver.
