Modernist Armchair “Bugatti” in mahogany with leather seat, C.1900.
Carlos Bugatti (Milan, Italy, February 16, 1856 – Molsheim, France, 1940) was an Italian artist and furniture designer.
His furniture can be embedded in Art Nouveau, but he exceeds this definition as he goes further by presenting very risky and imaginative personal contributions.
His style is inspired by Islamic and North African visual arts,
It is clear Bugatti’s interest in animals and nature that he often incorporates into his furniture as a figurative excuse for his ornamentation. We must also analyze his works as one of the last furniture makers who worked with artisan approaches in the era of mass-produced furniture.
XX Century.
