Imari porcelain has as its characteristic features an ornate decoration, almost always floral, made to satisfy Western markets, and the use of blue under the cover and red (sometimes also green) enamel on the cover, frequently enriched with gilding.
The origin of the Imari style is in the first porcelain production in Japan whose main center was Arita from 1675. It receives the name of the Port from where the pieces were exported.
